Archway Insurance was named the CAFE Nova Scotia Family Enterprise of the Year at an awards luncheon in Dartmouth today.

“It is a great honour to be recognized by other Nova Scotia-based family businesses,” said Archway Vice-President Michael Stack upon accepting the award on behalf of the family. “I am extremely fortunate to be able to work closely with my brother, sister, wife and parents. It feels great to work in such a loving and supportive environment.”

The Stack family attribute their success to a commitment to provide their customers with the right insurance products at the right price, and they work hand in hand with their insuring partners to make this happen.  They strive to work with the utmost integrity and treat their employees with dignity and respect. Since 2000 the company has grown from 14 employees to 50 in 2012, and sales have quadrupled in this time.

“As the number of family members working for Archway has grown, CAFE NS has become an excellent resource for us,” says Archway Regional Manager Gina McFetridge. “It is a wonderful feeling to know that we are not alone in dealing with the unique issues facing family businesses. The knowledge and support provided CAFE and its members is invaluable to us.”

At its heart, Archway Insurance is very much a family business. Its story began in November of 1985, when Garry Stack left his banking career and took a leap of faith and bought into an insurance company in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.  As the company has grown over the past decades, so too has the involvement of family members. Today, Garry’s wife, Jane, works in accounting, and his kids have come on board as well: Michael is the firm’s vice president; Michael’s wife, Chastity, works in accounts, Garry’s daughter, Gina, is a regional manager and head of marketing for the company; and his youngest son, Robert, is a commercial accounts manager in Halifax.

As provincial winner, Archway now advances to the national finals.
